HAS Bénouvillenear Caen (), the project to create a cultural and social center, estimated at 2.43 million eurossupported by Mayor Clémentine Le Marrec since the start of her mandate, never stops divide the elected officials of the municipal council, including its majority.

A project validated several times…

Indeed, the principle of the project, the architectural choice and the draft financing plan were approved by several deliberations, on September 1, 2023, October 16, 2023 and January 22, 2024. It was, Monday December 16, 2024, ofapprove the final draft and to authorize the filing of building and demolition permits.

…But still criticized

However, it was, once again, the opportunity for Alexis Marcheux and other elected representatives of the majority, to question again the choice of a new constructionvery expensive for the municipality, while a rehabilitation of the old one could, according to him, have been better subsidized by green funds and been a less expensive solution. In any case, he believes that the municipal council did not have all the useful information to decide.

For the opposition elected official, Gérard Fourquet, it is also an inconsiderate choice given the municipality's resources.

No more time to wait

After presenting the project again to the municipal council, with the modifications retained by the town planning commission, Clémentine Le Marrec cut these discussions short. She recalled that the cultural and social center project had been the subject of all the obligatory and necessary discussions and that it was not no more time to wonder about that.

At the end of the debate, the provisional financing plan and the authorization to submit building and demolition permits were approved despite seven abstentions.
