The latest quarterly results published at the end of October showed an almost stable number of unemployed people in category A (+0.2%) in the third quarter in France (excluding Mayotte).
The number of job seekers registered with France Travail in category A (without activity) increased by 1.43% in November compared to the previous month, with 44,400 more registered to 3.145 million, according to figures from the Ministry of Labor published THURSDAY. Including reduced activity (categories B and C), the number of job seekers in France (excluding Mayotte) increases by 0.43% and stands at 5.487 million, according to the statistics department of the Ministry of Labor ( Dares). The share of long-term job seekers (registered for a year or more) is 43.3%.
Dares does not comment on monthly data, which is too volatile, favoring quarterly developments. Including reduced activity (categories B and C), the number of job seekers increased by 0.2% to 5.4 million.
Economists expect unemployment to rise. In its latest economic report in mid-December, INSEE estimated that the unemployment rate (measured according to the ILO and allowing international comparisons) should increase from 7.4% currently to 7.6% of the active population in by mid-2025.
