One dead and six people injured. The toll from the gunshots that occurred Monday evening in a busy brasserie in the center of Ajaccio (Southern Corsica) is heavy. A 43-year-old man wanted for this shooting took himself prisoner this Wednesday evening at the Ajaccio police station, the prosecution said in a press release. The “trail of a private dispute between the author of the shots and the victim” is privileged, the prosecutor said Tuesday. The investigations are in the hands of an investigating magistrate for “attempted murder and murder”and entrusted to the judicial police.
“Repetition of serious criminal acts”
The facts aroused a lot of emotion in Corsica, where Pope Francis had visited a week earlier. “In one week, we went from joy to tragedy. Aiacciu (Editor's note: Ajaccio in Corsican language) and Corsica are mourning one of their children, whose life was cut short, and several seriously injured. The time is for mourning “There will necessarily come that of collective reflection to put an end to this madness.”wrote Tuesday on the social network X Gilles Simeoni, president of the Corsican community.
“Human life seems insignificant compared to weapons”for his part estimated the mayor of Ajaccio, Stéphane Sbraggia, on X, adding: “It is also up to us to fight collectively against these evils which are plaguing our society and threatening our youth.”

“Le Lamparo” was closed for two months by prefectural order in the face of “the repetition of serious criminal acts within a short period of time” but also in the face of “significant risk of recurrence”. The “management of this trade constitutes a source of serious disturbance to public order”underlined the prefecture. On the night of November 15 to 16, the owner of the “Lamparo” was hit by two shots in the leg in front of his establishment, without his life being in danger. A man was remanded in custody for attempted homicide.
