Our selection of the day arrives on December 24, 1968, the newspaper no longer appearing on December 25. The period is tough for the Republican East with the appearance of advertising on television and radio since 1is August 1968 and the first free classified ads newspapers.
The front page has taken on color with a new logo, born in the 1960s. A historic front page: the NASA mission, Apollo 8, achieved the feat of entering orbit around the Moon for the first time.
Its crew, made up of Americans Franck Borman, James Lovell and William Anders, became the first to enter the orbit of a star other than Earth.
In the middle of the space race
Having left on December 21, 1968, Apollo 8 unfortunately quickly fell into oblivion, eclipsed by the Apollo 11 mission of Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins and the first moon landing on July 21, 1969.
Yet she contributed to achieving this “small step for man, [et] a giant leap for humanity.” It also made it possible to discover the hidden side of the Moon.
As announced on the front page, a live television broadcast took place with images relayed by NASA.
It was also on this day that the now legendary “Earthrise” photo was taken, representing our planet suspended above the Moon. But it will only be known after the astronauts return. They will circle the Moon 10 times before returning to Earth.

Also on the front page, this December 24, is news of the first Lorraine heart transplant patient, operated on December 22 in Bordeaux, barely 8 months after the first intervention of this type, carried out in France.
