« Above all, we lost our memories. People say that the important thing is that we're alive, but they don't know that we lost everything“, recalls Joël Cousin, who also saw his home catch fire. He talks about photos of his children and many little memories that can never be made up for.
The latter explains that he was awakened and alerted that the fire was starting again, even though it had been extinguished several hours earlier by the firefighters in Claudine's adjoining house. The firefighters told them that they could return home in the afternoon, despite the risk of resurgence. “ I never would have believed it, I saw the flames coming out of the rooms“, he explains. He is currently staying with his daughter, on a mattress on the floor, where there are ten of them in the house. A rehousing solution was indeed offered to him, but in a neighborhood where he did not feel comfortable and far from Bongraine, where he had lived for several decades.
For the moment, the assessments have not been completed, but the families do not think that the houses can be rehabilitated, with the exception of a single dwelling. The neighbors, however, wanted to reassure their neighbor Claudine, where the fire started: “ She can't blame herself, it could have happened to anyone. » Before one of them concludes: “ My grandchildren ask what we want for Christmas, I tell them we just hope Santa brings a house. »
