Visiting the Philadelphia axis in Gaza this Wednesday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz reaffirmed Israel's determination to maintain security control of Gaza. Accompanied by Southern Front Commander General Yaron Finkelman and Gaza Division Chief Brigadier General Barak Hiram, he received an operational and intelligence briefing on IDF activities in the region.
“Security control of Gaza will remain in the hands of the IDF, which can act as it sees fit to eliminate threats, prevent tunneling, dismantle terrorist infrastructure and prevent the organization of terrorists seeking to harm the State of Gaza. 'Israel or its soldiers,' the minister said.
Katz stressed that lessons from the past have been learned: “We will make sure that what we saw in terms of infiltration tunnels and threats, and which this heroic war eliminated, will not happen again. As in Lebanon, in Syria and the east, we will guarantee that no further threat will weigh on Israeli communities, citizens and soldiers.” The minister also announced the creation of “buffer zones and dominant positions” to ensure the security of localities, while pursuing the two war objectives: “freeing all the hostages and defeating Hamas”. “There will no longer be here either political Hamas or military Hamas – a new reality will emerge thanks to the fighting that continues day after day,” he added, praising the determination of the soldiers, including the reservists, who said: “Continue, let us go to the end, guarantee safety and bring back the hostages.”
