The fog still does not dissipate around Vencorex. Placed in receivership, the company, a major player in the Pont-de-Claix (Isère) chemical platform, could be forced to close, threatening in the process the dismissal of a large part of its employees.
If a takeover offer, which would have made it possible to retain 50 jobs, has already been issued by the Chinese rival Wanhua, negotiations are at a standstill, because local elected officials still fear “a real disaster scenario”.
A vagueness which greatly annoys the latter, they who notably called, on December 17, the Prime Minister François Bayrou to validate the idea of “temporary nationalization”.
“One thing I can hope for”
And since this request, the will remains intact. Indeed, following the announcement of the new Bayrou government this Monday, December 23, 2024, Christophe Ferraripresident of the Métropole de Grenoble and mayor of Pont-de-Claixagreed with this.
“If there is one thing that I am allowed to hope in view of the composition of the government, it is that the Minister of the Economy (Eric Lombard), former director of the Caisse des Dépôts et des Consignments, public financial establishment, be attentive, on call, to temporarily nationalize Vencorex” he insisted in comments reported by the Dauphiné Libéré.
Ferrari offers solutions
And how to do it? “By using State tools, such as the Caisse des Dépôts, and mobilizing them in the service of employment, sovereignty, in short the general interest,” added Christophe Ferrari.
Please note that employees of Vencorex are still on strike since October 23.
