“Dry January”, literally “dry January” in French, is a public health campaign which promotes the total absence of alcohol consumption throughout the month of January. The City has chosen, once again this year, to promote this initiative in the Isère region. In 2022, it had already been the first community to officially join it.
So to set a good example, the City is going alcohol-free from the first of the year since no drop of alcohol will be served during events organized by the town hall, replaced by “mocktails”, non-alcoholic cocktails. alcoholics. Young people, a particularly vulnerable group, will also be targeted by awareness campaigns from the City's Health Promotion department. Managers of bar establishments will also be included in the system. While it is not a question of making alcohol consumers feel guilty, the emphasis is placed on promoting reasoned and informed consumption.
Why reduce your alcohol consumption?
According to the French Observatory on Drugs and Addictive Trends, if alcohol consumption has decreased in France in 2023, the number of hospitalizations linked to this consumption has increased. Already in 2015, the OFDT attributed 41,000 deaths in France to alcohol. Likewise, in 2019, the social cost of alcohol amounted to 102 billion euros in France.
So many good reasons to slow down to start the year off right!
