François Bayrou announced the composition of his government team this Monday, December 23. Absent from Michel Barnier's government, the former Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin is making his return to the executive.
Former minister Gérald Darmanin enters the government of François Bayrou this Monday, December 23 and is named Minister of Justice, BFMTV learned.
The current deputy for the 10th constituency of the North is making his return to the executive. He remained at the Ministry of the Interior for a little over four years, after having been Minister of Action and Public Accounts between 2017 and 2020.
Gérald Darmanin will thus form a tandem with Bruno Retailleau, reappointed to the Ministry of the Interior. The former Minister of the Interior, heavyweight of the Borne and Attal governments, therefore finds another regal post.
“Firmness, speed, proximity”
“As Keeper of the Seals, Minister of Justice, firmness, speed and proximity will guide my action to defend the victims”, comments Gérald Darmanin in the wake of the announcement of the composition of the government on his social networks.
“My support will be total for the magistrates, clerks, prison officers, youth protection officers and all justice officers,” he wrote.
His appointment did not take long to react. MEP Raphaël Glucksmann recalled the words of Gérald Darmanin after the requisitions of the Paris court in the trial of the parliamentary assistants of the National Rally. Gérald Darmanin judged “that it would be deeply shocking if Marine Le Pen were deemed ineligible.” “When will they cease to be under the tutelage of Marine Le Pen?” asked Raphaël Glucksmann.
“This is a matter of concern for us,” reacted on BFMTV Ludovic Friat, president of the Union of Magistrates. The Ministry of Justice “does not at all have the same culture and the same way of operating as the Ministry of the Interior”, he notably underlined.
