A 23-year-old man was indicted and imprisoned, suspected of having kidnapped, kidnapped and raped his 13-year-old cousin who had been promised to him in marriage by the teenager's family. The victim, of Romanian nationality, had taken refuge “in tears” at the Grenoble mutual clinic on the night of December 16 to 17, prosecutor Eric Vaillant said on Saturday, December 21, confirming information from the Dauphiné Libéré.
She told the establishment staff that she had escaped through the window of her uncle and aunt's apartment in Grenoble. She stated that she had been held there for three days and raped several times by her cousin while the latter's parents were present in the apartment.
According to her, her own parents wanted her to marry her cousin. The latter, accompanied by two of his brothers, came to kidnap her from the young girl's family home, in a camp in Cergy, in the Paris region. She was then taken to the Grenoble apartment of the cousin's parents, according to the prosecutor's account.
Placed in police custody on December 18 and 19, the cousin, his two brothers, the uncle and aunt and the father of the minor, “ended up – at a minimum – by recognizing the existence of a marriage plan”indicated Mr. Vaillant. The 23-year-old cousin was indicted and imprisoned for “rape of a 15-year-old minor by an adult with an age difference of at least 5 years”, kidnapping and sequestration. The victim was sheltered by child welfare.
The father of the minor, prosecuted for complicity in kidnapping and sequestration, was placed under judicial supervision, contrary to the requisitions of the public prosecutor's office which appealed. The victim's uncle and aunt were placed under assisted witness status, which the prosecution also appealed.
