For a little over a month, repeated thefts had been observed on the premises of a company in Longué-Jumelles, subcontractors of the operator Orange. On five occasions, thefts of scrap copper cables were reported. Seized, the gendarmerie opened an investigation. The investigations ended up paying off since two individuals were able to be identified. Living in Allonnes, they were arrested Thursday morning, December 19. At their home, residues of plastic sheaths were found in which the cables were originally located, but also the vehicle which had been used in one or more of these nocturnal burglaries.
Prison closed
The custody of these men aged 23 and 32 made it possible to quickly apprehend three of their accomplices established in Saumur, Longué-Jumelles and Bois d'Anjou who, in turn, were questioned. The five men admitted the facts with which they were accused and were the subject, Friday afternoon, December 20, of an appearance on prior admission of guilt at the Saumur court for aggravated theft.
They were all convicted based on their involvement and based on their criminal records. The three main defendants received sentences of 14 months, 11 months and 8 months in prison, with committal warrants. Another was sentenced to 105 hours of community service. The last person will have to pay 100 day fines of €6.
