Saturday December 21, 2024, after multiple interventions in support of the requests of the victims, Cannes obtained recognition of the state of natural disaster “floods and mudslides” following the violent bad weather on September 23 which hit the town. David Lisnard called on the State services on multiple occasions to argue the merits of the request and denounce the excessively long delay in decision-making, to the detriment of the affected residents, traders and craftsmen.
Eventually, after the personal interventions of the mayor of Cannes with of the Minister of the InteriorBruno Retailleau, the interministerial decree was published in Official Journal this day.
Therefore, the victims have thirty days to report their claim to their insurance
and establish an accurate list of damages suffered and property lost or damaged.
As a reminder, on September 23, 2024, the town of Cannes was affected by very intense bad weather. In just twenty minutes, 50 mm of rain were recorded and enormous quantities of water also came from upstream which poured onto Boulevard de la République. An intensity comparable – fortunately over a shorter duration – to that observed during the deadly floods of October 3, 2015. However, no red or orange alert was triggered by Météo-France. Thanks to the responsiveness of municipal and intercommunal services and the good reflexes of local residents, no casualties were reported.
Immediately after the storm, the Cannes Town Hall put in place specific actions and systems to provide assistance to residents and traders in the area. David Lisnard had requested the recognition of the state of natural disaster the same day with the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes – supporting photographs of the disaster – to enable the damage suffered by those administered to be taken into account.
