Omar Daf, coach of Amiens SC, was right to be wary of this Thaon team, a Nationale 3 team. This distrust was entirely justified because the Vosges players obtained a completely logical qualification (2-1 ).
It is certain that the Amiens have not recovered morally after their defeat against Laval. It was therefore the third confrontation between these two teams from Thaon and Amiens SC, a good one since each had qualified. And this beauty therefore most logically returned to Thaon. This match took place in Epinal and the ASC was deprived of Corchia, Kaïboue, suspended, but also Owen Gene left to rest by Omar Daf. Obviously in goal, Alexis Sauvage was established while the young defender Karchi, who often shines in R1, made his big debut. The day before, Troyes, the future opponent of the ASC, had eliminated Metz 3-0 but other surprises had been recorded such as the “exits” from Le Havre, Boulogne, Martigues and Grenoble. Proof that in the Coupe de France, anything can happen.
The first half played in deplorable weather conditions (rain and wind) should have been generally equal but it was the ASC which led to the break. The goal was scored with a header by central defender Urhoghide from a well-taken corner (20th). This goal followed two attempts from Kandil. The first time, he saw his shot skim the opposing post (13th) and a second time, his left shot was repelled by the bar (18th). The Amiens therefore took the advantage at a favorable moment but then, Thaon engaged much more and led rapid attacks on the sides. They even almost benefited from a poor recovery from Sauvage, surely hampered by the state of the pitch. If Thaon remained threatening, the ASC got a 2-0 lead but Léautey, surely the best during this period, missed his face to face with the opposing goalkeeper (45th). Just before rest, Bakayoko was injured and was replaced by Jaouab.
It was especially in the second half that Thaon imposed a greater will to win and above all greater efficiency while the Amiens played at a monotone rhythm. The restart was unfavorable for the ASC since Thaon equalized through Leroy who took advantage of an error from Sauvage to score (46th, 1-1). We had to wait until the 54th minute to finally see Mafouta attempt his first shot but the goalkeeper diverted for a corner. The Amiens did not give the impression that they wanted to impose themselves and worse, Thaon scored the winning goal by Lecoanet (83rd). Until the end and despite five minutes of additional time, the Amiens did not worry the excellent goalkeeper of Thaon whose teammates even scored a third goal disallowed for offside. The holidays will therefore not be as beneficial for the Amiens who were hugely disappointed in this last match of the year.
