“I grew up with his family, we were neighbours. On Sunday mornings, I went to the mosque with him to learn Arabic. We cycled together, we met in the park next to our accommodation, in Foulayronnes… We were like brothers.” Oualid Faouzi, childhood friend of Rayane Lemmouchi, stabbed to death on the night of Saturday to Sunday, at Les Lilas, in Seine-Saint-Denis, is stunned. “I am flabbergasted. Rayane was a golden person. Just like his family. He was a serious, responsible boy.”
In Agen, the death of the 25-year-old dentist, who lived his early childhood and the beginning of his adolescence in Agenais before leaving for Toulouse, caused a stir in local elected officials, anonymous people and friends of the family who, since Sunday, May 21, their support for the young man, “fortuitous victim” of a rivalry between rival gangs.
“In the name of all the faithful, the mosque of Agen would like to offer its sincere condolences to the family and to show them its support: it is a family that grew up in our mosque for several years and whose the parents have brought a lot to our mosque in terms of investment, ”write the representatives of the place of worship on the social network.
“Coincidental victim”
Rayane Lemmouchi’s father, beyond his involvement in the Agenese religious community, is also an emergency doctor at the Esquirol-Saint-Hilaire clinic. A practitioner “respected and very appreciated by his collaborators and patients”, supports the elected Agenese Baya Kherkhach, “shocked” by the drama which has taken place in the Paris region. “He was a youngster with a promising future. I am speechless in the face of this broken life, taken away for free. »
Oualid Faouzi remembers “the wisdom” of Rayane. “His father and mother always helped my parents, who were illiterate. Rayane, too, was always very wise: he asked us to calm down when necessary, to prevent situations from degenerating. He always moved away when we started to do something stupid… What happened to him is a rare injustice.
The dental surgeon had just graduated. He had recently been working in Pantin, in the medical office where his aunt practiced. “Rayane was a young athlete. He graduated after six years of university studies and hard work,” she wrote on her Facebook page. Idriss, his brother, also pays tribute to his “darling little brother” on Twitter. “My family is heartbroken.”
According to the first elements of the investigation collected by AFP, Rayane Lemmouchi was “the fortuitous victim” of an old rivalry between the municipalities of Lilas, Bagnolet and Pré-Saint-Gervais. The young man had come to eat at his aunt’s at Les Lilas. Then, in the company of his cousins, he would have gone for the air around 10 p.m. Several individuals, two on motorbikes and others on foot, including one wearing a hood, allegedly then struck Rayane with a knife.
The young man was found by the emergency services in cardio-respiratory arrest, in the street. He died of his injuries after being transferred to Bichat Hospital in Paris. An investigation for murder in an organized gang was opened and entrusted to the judicial police of Seine-Saint-Denis.
