In Mayotte the toll is increasing. The latest one contains 35 words according to the Ministry of the Interior. This morning, a tribute to the victims was organized at Champ Fleuri by the interreligious dialogue group of Réunion.
This Saturday morning, the Champ Fleuri esplanade was the scene of a moment of contemplation in tribute to the victims of the cyclone which struck Mayotte. Prayers were shared, they brought together many people who came to express their solidarity.
“It’s complicated, since the cyclone passed, I haven’t heard from my daughter”confides a father.
The interreligious dialogue group organized this tribute to say some prayers for the victims. “We came to show our solidarity with all the victims. The sun is shining for everyone, the rain is falling for everyone and the wind has been blowing for everyone“, explains Mohamed Maoihibou, former president of the Comorian religious community.
“It is necessary to remember what happened so that our prayer has substance, so that it is not ethereal“, indicates Monseigneur Gilbert Aubry, bishop emeritus of Reunion.
Traditional songs recalled the deep ties that exist between the two islands in the Indian Ocean. This simple and poignant moment demonstrated collective pain, but also unfailing solidarity between communities.
This morning Saint-Denis stood alongside Mayotte, in memory and the hope of perhaps still finding the missing.
