This Tuesday, December 17 at 11:30 a.m. in his office at City Hall, Mayor Gérard Trémège gave a press conference.
He announced that the budget of €10,000 planned for the Wishes ceremony in Tarbais, within the Exhibition Center, will ultimately be used to help the victims of Mayotte.
A gesture from the mayor of Tarbe in support of the affected people of Mahor and which will be paid directly to the community of the department of Mayotte.
These wishes were initially scheduled for January 7 and thousands of people were expected to attend. “I don't see myself celebrating with joy while a few thousand kilometers away, compatriots are in the most absolute poverty, without water, food or house,” explains the mayor.
He considers it “scandalous” that this territory has been “left abandoned”. He judges: “We bear a responsibility (…) and must do everything possible to support and help the Mahorais.”
He also hopes that his gesture will be followed – moreover denying having “waited” for François Bayrou on the subject. He insists: “Reconstruction will require billions. It is not the State, nor the department, nor the inhabitants who will be able to provide them. We must mobilize through donations”
The latter, however, wishes the people of Tarbais happy holidays.
