SENEGAL-LITTERATURE-EDITION / Madiambal Diagne raises awareness about illegal migration with his novel ”Dinner at the White House will wait” – Senegalese Press Agency

Dakar, Dec 20 (APS) – The journalist and CEO of the Avenir communication group, Madiambal Diagne presented, Thursday, in Dakar, his very first novel entitled, “Dinner at the White House will wait”, a 293-page work which talks about illegal migration to the United States of America via the route from Nicaragua to Mexico.

”In this book, there is a true story, I used reporting techniques with a few sketches of fiction as in any novel to retrace the wanderings of migrants,” declared the author who says he is translating “a look unprecedented by the evocation of the itinerary”.

The work tells the odyssey of Kéthiel, the heroine, who retraces a path of the cross, from her departure from her native Senegal to the America of her dreams, dotted with the most cruel stages.

According to the writer, the novel is a series of illusions and disillusions, but for him, it also remains a guided tour of regions, cultures, of the human soul in both its best and worst.

»The story of Kéthiel is a rosary of the lives of little people who aspire to a dignified existence. This story which brings together several real human stories is the dark fresco of a rigid Senegalese society in its ruthless patriarchy with women who try to escape their medieval status,” says Madiambal Diagne on the back cover.

He believes that the objective of this book is ”to encourage young Senegalese to settle in the land and to demonstrate resilience, to unwind the African”

According to the journalist ”it’s a book that testifies to a revolting phenomenon which is irregular immigration”.

With this novel, Madiambal Diagne also enters the novel genre and promises to stay there.

He hopes, all the same, that his novel can ”serve to raise awareness and lead political authorities to look more closely at the nagging question of irregular immigration”.

The novel “Dinner at the White House will wait” is prefaced by the journalist-columnist, Ibou Fall.

Having read the book, Me Aissata Tall Sall, who was also responsible for the presentation, affirms that the characters are as real as the problems exposed in “Dinner at the White House Will Wait”.

The work is published by ”Editions du Quotidien”. Madiambal Diagne immediately announced the upcoming publication of another book.

Author of several publications, Madiambal Diagne is also president of the International Union of the French-speaking Press (UPF).
