A popular means of travel in the region. While the cable transport project between Fontaine and Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux (Isère) has made little progress in 10 years, the Joint Mobility Union of the Grenoble agglomeration mentions two new ideas.
A development of this type of transport which is envisaged in two sectors of the valley Grésivaudan. The first returns are expected at the start of 2025.
Here is what we know about the Smmag plans, which are, for the moment, only at the study stage.
A project in Crolles
During a press conference on Friday December 6, 2024, Sylvain Laval and elected officials from Smmag announced that studies were in progress for a cable transport project between Crolles and Brignoud.
“The idea would be to connect the Brignoud station to the Crolles commercial activity zone”, specify the services of the Joint Mobility Union of the Grenoble metropolitan area.
The ambition would be to cross Isère, the motorway and the railway via this mode of air travel.
A project in Pontcharra
Full of ambitions, Smmag presented a second idea in the Grésivaudan valley. A cable transport project is being studied between Pontcharra and Collet d’Allevard, via Allevard.
In this sector, the idea of Smmag and the community of communes of Grésivaudan is to create a mode of travel for the daily journeys of residents, but also for tourists.
Asked about possible competition between the projects, Sylvain Laval disputes this and explains that it is “just a matter of choices to be made”.
