The MR calls an emergency press conference on the Brussels negotiations: trainer David Leisterh “remains at the helm”

In De Morgen, this Wednesday, the leader of Vooruit Ans Persoons pleaded in this direction on Wednesday. “Maybe it’s time for someone else to take on this role (of trainer) for a while“, assured the socialist.

The MR calls an emergency press conference on the Brussels negotiations: trainer David Leisterh “remains at the helm

As announced in La Libre this Friday, David Leisterh has absolutely no plans to resign. He confirmed it this Friday. “I will not retreat. I remain at the helm.”

He also calls on the various party presidents, at the national level, to come around the table.

“Brussels is becoming an issue that transcends borders. In the coming hours, I will invite all the French-speaking parties, with the national presidents, to discuss the future of Brussels but also all the fears,” he added.

Party presidents invited, but not the PTB

Marie Lecocq and Samuel Cogolati (Ecolo), Paul Magnette (PS), Maxime Prévot (Les Engagés) and Sophie Rohonyi (Défi) are therefore invited to the Brussels table. Raoul Hedebouw, president of the PTB, however, is not invited.

This configuration should also allow the MR and the PS to resume their discussions. They have been interrupted since Ahmed Laaouej left the negotiating table, due to his veto against the N-VA. By inviting Paul Magnette and Georges-Louis Bouchez, the MR avoids putting the mayor of Koekelberg too directly into conflict with David Leisterh, while their relations have deteriorated significantly. But this maneuver, in the mind of the MR, is indeed an extended hand to the PS, who are being asked to come back to the table.

The MR is also trying, by calling the different parties around the table, to force the national presidents to take responsibility and get their hands dirty themselves.

The presidents of Dutch-speaking parties are however not invited, the MR starting from the principle that there is no blockage on the Dutch-speaking side… By this choice, David Leisterh and Georges-Louis Bouchez therefore do not meet the request of the PS , which for its part calls for a modification of the Dutch-speaking team, with the replacement of the N-VA by the PS.

Fundamentally, however, nothing has changed at this stage and the blockage remains total.
