It was announced by the meteorologists: a storm had indeed hit the Alpes-Maritimes and the other Mediterranean departments.
The wind blew without doing any real damage to Nice. This is not the case for several other maralpine areas. The point in pictures.
130 km/h in Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne
It was about fifty kilometers from Nice that the wind blew the strongest: in Saint-Cézaire-sur-Siagne, more precisely.
Gusts of up to 130 km/h shook this town in the east of the department. In Gréolières, they went up to 110 km/h, 83 km/h in Mandelieu or 79 km/h in Antibes.
In Nice, the wind was felt while remaining controlled: the gusts did not exceed 50 km/h. Same assessment in Menton, where the blast reached a maximum of 55 km/h.
Hail and thunderstorms in Menton
The Maralpine East was spared by the squalls, but certainly not the storms. The area was marked by significant atmospheric disturbances.
Lightning lit up the sky in several parts of the area. Hail also fell, among other places in the “lemon city”.
Several residents sent videos and photos to Weather Côte d’Azur. The media has compiled some of them:
A priori, the zone of “instability” between Italy and Menton has “now moved far out to sea”.
And snow around the stations
Snow also came to sprinkle mountain communities. Ski resorts were able to benefit from this. Good news, in the middle of the slopes reopening season.
The Isola 2000 webcam, obstructed by flakes, was able to film these snowfalls:
The windy episode is now calming down hour by hour this Fridaywith a gradual return to normal throughout the Alpes-Maritimes. In the afternoon, the wind will leave the coast, with only 5 km/h gusts recordable in Nice.
The wind will still remain a little in the hinterlandnotably in Tende (80 km/h). The end of the disturbances is expected in the evening.
