An ecumenical Christmas on France 2

Orthodox, Eastern Christians, Protestants and Catholics invite you to celebrate the great Christmas celebration on Télévisions. Retransmission of worship, documentaries and ecumenical reports, without forgetting the Ubi et Orbi blessing from Saint Peter’s in Rome: “The Paths of Faith” make religions and traditions resonate with the questions of the time. Tuesday December 24 at 11:55 p.m., then Wednesday 25 from 9:00 a.m. on France 2.

« [La fête de Noël] does not announce to us, basically, anything other than the prospect of a new morning – one after so many others! A simple messenger of dawn, she only tells us, in the contemplation of the deep night, of the birth of a small child – one after so many others. » In one of his early manuscripts published posthumously (Mornings of the SpiritLes Belles Lettres, 2021), the philosopher Clément Rosset, who died in 2018, seized the Christian Nativity as a symbol of what he would later call “force majeure”, joy. Way of reminding us that, beyond the pleasure (more or less spontaneous, moreover) of family celebrations and reunions between loved ones, the Christmas tradition celebrates, through the figure of a newborn, the joy of birth, of all birth: a dawn, therefore, which carries within itself not the possibility of change, not even that of renewed hope, but only the joy of starting over: “ […] It is given to us humans, he wrote, to be able to constantly start trying to reconcile ourselves with life, to succeed in coming to terms with it. »
Faced with the doubts, even the anxieties, that our uncertain times bring, whether we are believers or not, it is to this joy that we are called The Paths of Faith. Bringing together the four Christian traditions (Orthodox, Eastern Christians, Protestants and Catholics), France Télévisions’ religious programs invite us to the great Christmas celebration. From December 24, The Lord’s Day will thus offer the traditional midnight mass celebrated in mondovision by Pope Francis in Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The next morning, Orthodoxy, Eastern Christians et Protestant presence will offer broadcasts of worship and documentaries. Finally, before the traditional Urbi et Orbi blessing pronounced by Pope Francis live from Rome, in On the Lord’s day, the mass will be celebrated live from Notre-Dame de : for the first time since the fire, Parisians will be able to participate in Christmas mass in the restored cathedral. Joy, we tell you!
