Dakar, Dec 19 (APS) – The programs developed by the Agency for the Economy and Energy Management (AEME) have made it possible to achieve savings of 16.858 billion CFA francs and avoid nearly 55,000 tonnes of CO2 between 2015 and 2023, we learned from one of its managers.
“The four programs [la mise à niveau de l’énergie des bâtiments, l’éclairage général, la communication, la formation, le contrôle qualité] developed between 2015 and 2023, made it possible to achieve gains of 77,850 gigawatts, 16.858 billion FCFA and to avoid nearly 55,000 tonnes of CO2″, maintained the head of the AEME subdivision-evaluation, Abdou Karim Sarr .
Mr. Sarr was speaking during a capacity building workshop initiated by the Senegalese Federation of Consumer Associations (FESAC), on the theme “Consumer empowerment through clean energy transitions”.
“Consumers would benefit more and more from having the right information that allows them to save money,” said the president of the board of directors of the Senegalese Federation of Consumer Associations, Maguette Fall.
According to him, we must “further amplify this movement, moving in the direction of making savings, of producing first of all in a healthy way, of preventing our environment from being truly polluted by a certain number of tools, practices […] ».
For Mr. Fall, “there is no reason why priority should be given to fossil fuels”. He also advocated the use of local languages to reach the majority of Senegalese consumers.
The chairman of the board of directors of the Senegalese Federation of Consumer Associations also called for the development and implementation of information, education and communication plans, for a change in consumer behavior.
