The swimmer, star of the Olympics, comes clearly at the top of a survey carried out among the French. Among the girls, judoka Clarisse Agbegnenou dominates a much tighter hierarchy.
In the year of the Olympic Games, Léon Marchand has become the undisputed hero of the French in the field of sport. Second last year in the Odoxa poll for Winamax RTL designating the best French athlete, the Toulouse native with four Olympic titles leads the study with 44% of the votes.
Antoine Dupont, acclaimed last year and also a gold medalist in Paris with rugby sevens, must be content with second place (12%) alongside Teddy Riner, also crowned Olympic champion this summer. Félix Lebrun is at the foot of the podium with 8% ahead of Kylian Mbappé with only 4% of the votes.
The Real Madrid striker is also the only footballer to have gathered votes in his favor in a hierarchy ultra-dominated by Olympic and Paralympic athletes. Alexis Hanquinquant, Paralympic triathlon champion in September, is in 7th place, tied with Florent Manaudou (3%).
Clarisse Agbegnenou in the lead among girls
Among the girls, judoka Clarisse Agbegnenou won the prize for sportswoman of the year (20%), as in 2023, even if her Olympics were a little disappointing on an individual level (bronze medal) while she was aiming the first step (obtained with the French mixed team). Cassandre Beaugrand, who triumphed in the triathlon, is not far behind (16%), followed by Pauline Ferrand-Prévost (15%) in gold in the mountain bike. Emeline Pierre (swimming) is the first para-athlete in the hierarchy with 6% of respondents, in fifth position.
The Olympic and Paralympic Games have, unsurprisingly, crushed the sporting year of the French, whether they are sports fans or not.
Finally, the year will probably remain a great year in the minds of the French, 87% of whom consider this year to be “very good” and “good”. 8% of respondents consider it “fairly bad” and 4% consider these twelve months to be a “very bad” year for French sport.
