FIFA has published its latest world ranking for the year 2024, and Senegal maintains its 17th place, thus consolidating its position among the major nations of world football. The team led by Aliou Cissé remains the second best African team, behind Morocco, which occupies 14th place.
Despite a slight fall out of the top 20 in September, the Lions regained their place in October, illustrating their consistency at the highest level. This stability was marked by their qualification for the next African Cup of Nations (CAN), with an impeccable performance during the qualifiers. Undefeated and first in their group, the Senegalese were able to react after a disappointing elimination at the start of the year at CAN 2024 in Ivory Coast, where their adventure ended prematurely.
On the African continent, Morocco continues to dominate, maintaining its leading position in Africa and its 14th place in the world. Behind Senegal, we find Egypt (33rd), Algeria (37th) and Nigeria (44th), which complete the African top 5.
Other African nations also recorded interesting results: Angola, for example, made a spectacular rise of 32 places, reaching 85th in the world. On the other hand, Tunisia and Ivory Coast experienced a significant decline in the ranking.
At the global level, Argentina finished the year at the top of the FIFA rankings, followed by France and Spain, confirming their domination on the international scene.
