The elected officials of the Sustainable and Solidarity Metropolis Group have just sent a new official letter to Keolis, the concessionaire of the European Metropolis of Lille. Inside, they renew their demand for real financial compensation for subscribers of the public transport network, who have suffered numerous disruptions for many months.
It’s a bit of a story that seems endless for some time, that of the Lille metro, its problems, the complaints, the exchanges that don’t lead to much, etc. But hey, we still follow the episodes of this series a little rotten up close, just to see how it will end. Today on the agenda: a new official request signed by Audrey Linkenheld, president of the Métropole Durable et Solidaire group and addressed to Keolis.
“Since July 2024, the metro service has deteriorated significantly on the network concessioned by the MEL in Ilévia. This has resulted in crossing frequencies of up to 9 minutes, overcrowded platforms at peak times in the main metropolitan stations, whether on lines 1 or 2, and overloaded trains. While the new pilot should allow for an improvement, the degraded situation continues. We cannot hear that the only answers to daily chaos are a few relay buses and a paltry subscription to V’lille at a time when its practice is becoming less and less easy.“, explain the elected representatives of the group Sustainable and Solidarity Metropolis to reset the scene.
A subscription 10€ cheaper?
The problem, according to them, is that the compensation is not commensurate with the disruptions, malfunctions and everything that this causes in the everyday lives of metro users. This is why they demand more: “We ask real compensation, by the concessionaire or grantor, towards all subscribers of the public transport network, and primarily the most modest among them. We specifically offer a reduction in the subscriber rate, of around 10 to 17 euros, for a minimum of one month..”
The elected officials conclude their letter by affirming that they “will relay their proposal to the mobilized associations and in session during the metropolitan council this Friday, December 20.“So to be continued, we won’t miss the next episode.
