Softwareone, the Swiss specialist in license distribution, announces the acquisition of the Norwegian group Crayon. Raphael Erb (CEO of Softwareone) and Melissa Mulholland (CEO of Crayon) will be named co-CEOs of the new company, which will be based in Switzerland.
Updated December 19, 2024: A few days ago, SoftwareOne announced that it was in negotiations to acquire the Crayon group, thus confirming the rumors circulating in this direction. Today, the Swiss specialist in licensing distribution announces that discussions have been successful in favor of this operation.
The transaction, a mix of stock swap and cash, values Crayon at $1.4 billion. The new combined entity will represent a total turnover of approximately 1.6 billion Swiss francs, will have a presence in more than 70 countries and will employ almost 13,000 people. The founding shareholders of SoftwareOne (29% of the capital) and Crayon (5%) fully support this merger.
The company resulting from this union will have its legal headquarters in Stans, Switzerland. General management will be jointly ensured by Raphael Erb, current CEO of SoftwareOne, and Melissa Mulholland, CEO of Crayon.
By combining their expertise, SoftwareOne and Crayon intend to strengthen their position in the global IT services market. This merger will allow them to expand their portfolio of differentiated services and consolidate their strategic relationships with hyperscalers. “We see a fast-growing market opportunity as organizations continue to drive digital transformation,” explains Raphael Erb.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025, subject to customary regulatory conditions.

Softwareone has responded to rumors of its intention to buy Crayon Group, a Norwegian company also active in the distribution of software licenses. In a press release, Softwareone confirms that it is in advanced discussions with a view to acquiring Crayon Group. The Scandinavian company, which has a branch in Switzerland, could be bought for a consideration in cash and shares.
Softwareone nevertheless recognizes that these discussions will not necessarily lead to an offer to Crayon shareholders. Further information will be provided in due course, the press release said.
