After the passage of Cyclone Chido, which hit the Mayotte archipelago hard, the City of Talence expressed its deep solidarity with the affected residents. This disaster, the most intense recorded in Mayotte in 90 years, caused considerable human and material damage.
The health situation there is becoming worrying, and the vital needs are dire. During the last meeting of the Municipal Council, a minute of silence was observed in tribute to the victims. The mayor, Emmanuel Sallaberry, underlined the importance of national solidarity: “Mayotte experienced a catastrophe with the passage of Cyclone Chido, which devastated the island. Thousands of Mahorais have lost everything. We all have a thought for the victims and their loved ones, as well as for the emergency services in our country who have been hard at work since the very beginning. To contribute to the first aid to victims and participate in the first reconstructions, the City proposes to make a contribution of 5,000 euros, obviously insufficient in view of the human consequences. But all the municipalities of France provide their help under the aegis of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF). »
Support the territory
An exceptional grant of 5,000 euros was voted by the City for the benefit of the Fondation de France, which intervenes on the ground to provide emergency actions, such as access to drinking water, temporary shelters, and essential medical care. She also supports the most vulnerable families in rebuilding their daily lives.
This gesture, part of a national dynamic orchestrated by the AMF, testifies to the municipality’s commitment to the values of solidarity and fraternity.
The City also encourages its residents and partners to participate in humanitarian initiatives in favor of Mayotte.
