Launched by students elected to the CVL (High School Life Council), between December 2 and 13, 2024, a collection for the benefit of the Red Cross was implemented at the Descartes high school, for Christmas.
During the official handover of the collected objects, Friday December 13, Dominique Roy, communications manager of the local unit of Tours, which has nearly 500 volunteers, recalled the history and various tasks of the Red Cross. “This type of operation fits perfectly with one of our missions, and has the advantage of providing young people with an opportunity to open up to social issues concerning people in great difficulty. »
Supported by a poster campaign within the high school, the sending of emails to students, their parents and the staff of the establishment, but also the help of educational advisors, who cleaned the lost clothes not requested in order to join the collection, the 2024 harvest brought together a third more donations than last year. Hygiene products, childcare items, warm clothing, small treats… made it possible to fill several boxes for the benefit of the most deprived.
Against clichés about young people
Asked about their motivations, the students insisted on their wish “to support associations, such as the Red Cross, whose mission is to help people in need. It seems natural to us to engage in this type of approach. As we age, we better perceive the reality of economic and social issues. »
Talking about their investment in the CVL, one of the high school students highlighted how much “Each operation of this type enriches us and allows us to experience high school differently. In addition, it allows us to demonstrate that the cliché of the young person who is not interested in anything does not really exist. The good result of this collection is proof of that! »
