Dakar, Dec 18 (APS) – The President of the Republic asked the government to carry out an evaluation and relaunch of the project of scientific rewriting of the general history of Senegal, reports the press release from the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday.
Bassirou Diomaye Faye underlined, in the press release from the Council of Ministers, “the importance of popularizing and teaching the general history of Senegal”.
In this regard, he asked the Prime Minister “to evaluate and relaunch the project of scientific rewriting of the general history of Senegal, to rehabilitate and promote the historical heritage of our municipalities and cities”.
In this spirit, the text continues, the Head of State indicated to the Minister in charge of Culture and to the Secretary of State in charge of historical heritage, “the need to work on the rehabilitation of the heritage of the islands, in particular Gorée ( Dakar) and Carabane (Ziguinchor, south) in close collaboration with the municipal authorities and the populations.”
President Faye also invited the Prime Minister to “initiate reflection on the creation of a National Council for Memory and Historical Heritage Management in order to make the preservation of our history a major factor in economic, social and cultural development of Senegal,” underlines the press release from the Council of Ministers.
