LA SEYNE SUR MER: Léo-Lagrange school, children give to animals

As part of an educational action around animal welfare, after-school students at the Léo-Lagrange school donated 40 kilos of food and 91 duvets and blankets to three Seynoise associations working in favor of animals.

Elected officials Christelle Lachaud* and Véronique Leportois** attended the donation.

Before the arrival ofs three associations, the children carefully put away the 40 kilos of dog and cat food and the 91 duvets and blankets that they collected. Impatient and proud of their harvests, they were eager to meet the representatives of the three Seynoise associations who work daily to welcome, care for and take a charge animals who are not lucky enough to have an owner. Meanwhile,in the school parking lot, Christelle Lachaud and Véronique Leportois welcomeaient members of the Animal Assistance Foundation ***, Friends of Noah’s Ark and of Loops Cahuet and Company.

When they are welcomed by the children, they discover with undisguised gratitude the children’s gifts.

A city committed to animal welfare

“As part of our actions in favor of animal welfare, explains Christelle Lachaud, animal welfare assistant, we organized an exhibition of L214 at the Naval Park on the occasion of International Animal Welfare Day but also a forum with animal rights associations on October 19. Nathalie Bicais, mayor of La Seyne, passed a motion in the municipal council to demand the release of Paul Watson (Editor’s note: the latter was released today December 17, 2024 by the Danish authorities). She also got involved and signed the petition of 30 million friends in favor of the establishment of “a permit to adopt” dogs in order to make future owners responsible and thus avoid abandonment. Finally, I remind you that the City systematically refuses requests for occupation of public property by circuses that feature wild animals”.

Furthermore, a photo competition entitled “Take a photo of yourself with your pet” was a great success with Seynoises. A selection of 38 photos will be published in the next municipal magazine Vivre à La Seyne January/February 2025 edition (released January 20, 2025). Finally, an exhibition of these photos as well as animal frescoes created by Léo-Lagrange’s students will take place from January 22 to 29 at the Labor Exchange.

“I’m proud of you”

It is in this dynamic that the teaching team of the meridian time of the Léo-Lagrange school and the students wanted to organize this collection for the Seynoise associations which work for animal welfare and collect abandoned animals. I am proud when I see everything you have collected. On behalf of the municipality and Madam Mayor, I thank you very much children, and I also want to thank Rita, Pauline, LLoris, Yan, BriceJean-Jacques, Gianni, Jérémy S, Jérémy P, Suzy, Sylvie and Sylvain for organizing this masterful collection. You have united Seynois students to this noble cause of animal protectione.
