President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye led the weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers on December 18, 2024, at the Presidential Palace. He first welcomed the recent inauguration in Thiès of the monument dedicated to Lat Dior Ngoné Latyr Diop, national hero, marking the centenary of his death.
The President placed emphasis on the promotion of historical heritage as a national issue. He instructed the Prime Minister and the Minister of Local Authorities to ensure that the names of streets and buildings more faithfully reflect the major historical events and figures of Senegal.
Likewise, he reiterated the need to relaunch the project to rewrite the history of the country to make it more accessible and educational, involving in particular a restoration of the heritage of Gorée and Carabane.
On another front, the Head of State underlined the urgency of an urban planning policy geared towards 2050. He urged the updating of urban plans and rigorous compliance with construction codes, in particular to promote the rise of adapted social housing.
He also instructed the Ministry of Urban Planning to partner with the Order of Architects to redefine the legal framework for architecture in Senegal, while integrating green spaces and promoting in-depth training for professionals in the sector.
As for housing policy, priority must be given to the relaunch of social housing programs. The Prime Minister is called upon to establish decent housing as a national cause from 2025, with regular monitoring in the Council of Ministers.
In the tourism sector, the President insisted on rigorous management of developments in tourist areas to support the rise of the sector.
The Prime Minister announced that the General Policy Declaration is scheduled for December 27, 2024. He also urged the ministries to comply with the new legislative agenda in force from January 2025, while prioritizing the rationalization of public resources.
Finally, communications were made on preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the agricultural situation and a new financing strategy for the social and solidarity economy.
Under the legislative texts, a decree structuring the Ministry of African Integration was adopted, presaging a major new policy.
