More than 600 media outlets and companies registered before the closing of the registration platform set up by the Ministry of Communication. Currently, the commission for examination and validation of press companies is studying their files. This information was communicated by Daouda Mine, member of the said commission, during the program “Lantinoor” broadcast on RTS 1.

Speaking on the issues, challenges and perspectives of media regulation, Daouda Mine stressed that resolving problems in the press sector relies on strong political will. He clarified that the objective of the commission is not to sanction or close non-compliant media, but to support them towards compliance. This approach aims to enable them to benefit from the Press Support Fund.

For his part, the president of the Young Reporters Convention, Migui Maram Ndiaye, highlighted the urgency of establishing taxation adapted to the media sector. He notably denounced the absurdity of treating a press company like a cement factory from a tax perspective. He also pleaded for the adoption of a law on advertising and urged the President of the Republic to organize a meeting with press organizations to officially submit the conclusions of the sector conference.

Furthermore, Marguerite Rosalie Ndiaye recalled that the compliance of press companies is not limited to a single criterion. She insisted on the importance of other essential aspects such as respecting social contributions, paying taxes, as well as the formalization of employment contracts for journalists. She encouraged the latter to claim their access to the Support Fund, the amount of which was recently increased.
