Malta considers the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 as “a good basis for a definitive resolution” of the Moroccan Sahara question.
This strengthening of position was noted in a Joint Communiqué sanctioning the meeting by videoconference, Wednesday, between Ian Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Malta, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and of Moroccans living abroad, Nasser Bourita, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
In this same Joint Communiqué, Malta, a member of the UN Security Council, “considers the autonomy plan presented (by Morocco) in 2007 as a serious and credible contribution to the political process led by the UN to advance the process towards a definitive resolution”, and “encourages all parties to demonstrate greater political will towards achieving a definitive solution and to renew their commitment to the efforts of the United Nations in a spirit of realism and of compromise”.
Furthermore, the two ministers praised the excellent relations between Morocco and Malta and reiterated their common desire to further strengthen them in all areas.
