While she was going to her work, at the Mutuelle Nationale des Hospitaliers on avenue d’Antibes, between Montargis and Amilly, a 28-year-old woman lost her life, hit by a car, on Tuesday, December 17.
With the violence of the impact, the victim was thrown several meters, before hitting another vehicle which was on the opposite lane. The victim was crossing the road on a protected crossing, near a pedestrian light.
Conflicting testimonies
The driver of the vehicle, aged 63, was interviewed by police officers from the Montargis police station. “The accused claims not to have seen the pedestrian,” indicates Jean-Cédric Gaux, public prosecutor of Montargis. The magistrate adds that assessments will be carried out, particularly on the vehicle, in order to determine the speed at which it was traveling.
Tests carried out on the motorist were negative. His vehicle was seized and his driving license was revoked.
Although the speed and circumstances remain to be determined, some residents assure that the speed limit (50 km/h) is regularly exceeded on this axis. “Every day, it’s nonsense. We really don’t have the impression that this road is limited to 50. People overtake, burn the fire at crazy speeds,” assures a local resident.
