And a verbal joust exists between the resigning Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau and the environmentalist mayor Eric Piolle, the first having questioned the second on the fact of not wanting to deploy more video surveillance cameras in his municipality.
Eric Piolle responded curtly to the microphone of Sud Radio this Wednesday: “He, who is Minister of the Interior, is the one in charge of the fight against crime, while he says that it is the fault of local elected officials, that is bullshit!”.
Grenoble elected officials have already called for police reinforcements in Beauvau. But for Eric Piolle, the subject goes beyond: “There is more than 50% recidivism, we go to French prisons, this generates new delinquents. Our global system is failing”.
The subject of arming the municipal police is also discussed, and the ecologist responds to our colleagues doing prevention, that the police are there for the peace of the public, armed only with electric shock guns. “No, I will not arm the Grenoble municipal police”he added.
