Around twenty staff from the Brizeux high school in Quimper walked off the job

Around twenty teaching and education staff from the Brizeux high school, in , walked off the job on Tuesday December 17, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the call of union representatives Sud education 29 and CGT Educ’action 29. They intended to protest against “the catastrophic situation in the infirmary”.

“Since the start of the school year in September, there has been a shortage of 28 hours of nursing time each week, to the point that the service has to be closed every afternoon,” indicates a representative of Sud education 29 in a press release. “There are many more students who need individual support each year; the daily dedication of existing staff cannot be enough to meet the needs. While the vocation of the public service is to serve the general interest, reception and prevention work is no longer possible. The personnel in action immediately demand full-time nursing in the establishment in the name of the duty of assistance to people in danger of the public service of National Education,” he continues.

A new organization to “prioritize long listening times”

Contacted this Wednesday, December 18, the rectorate of the academy (35), provided the following details. “Two nurses operate the infirmary at the Auguste-Brizeux high school in Quimper, both part-time, one at 80% and one at 50%, i.e. 1.3 FTE (full-time equivalent). This organization allows a daily presence in the establishment.”

According to the rectorate, the infirmary is open all day, with operation by appointment in the afternoon. “This experiment was set up, in conjunction with nurses, in order to prioritize long listening times as part of the prevention of psychological suffering among students. These are dedicated listening times, offered to high school students who feel the need. The infirmary is therefore not closed in the afternoon and the nurses are always available. They intervene immediately within the establishment if necessary,” we finally point out.
