Each in turn, the students of the Hélène Boucher college in Chartres take turns filling the trunk of the small Red Cross utility vehicle.
They are in fourth grade and all chose the Red Cross option at the start of the school year. An option which appeared this year, “in the form of a test”, explains Céline Boucher, teacher and pilot of this project.
“This option should allow students to implement values of solidarity and mutual aid, explains the teacher.” For the moment, bet held. Among the students, the option convinces. “It’s quite synaptic, to share a moment with friends, while doing actions that benefit those who need it,” says Rayan Moreira Da Silva, registered for this option.
Hygiene products and treats
Since December 9, he and the seven other registered students have organized a collection of “Christmas boxes” for the benefit of the association. Inside, “toys, well-being products, treats, little notes and a few surprises,” quote the teenagers.
These packages were prepared and offered by college students and collected by their counterparts from the Red Cross option.
“They will be distributed tomorrow, Wednesday December 18, during a snack for families in difficulty who do not have the means to celebrate Christmas,” indicates Siham Moreira Da Silva, president of the local unit of Chartres de the Red Cross.
Citizen engagement
Students don’t stop at a few hours at college. They also get involved on weekends, like Tom Brulé, who prepares sandwiches for the marauders. “80 in two hours,” he says.
From time to time, he also acts as a personal shopper at the Red Cross “vestiboutique”. “I help the beneficiaries to choose what they want,” he summarizes.
