several days without heating in a nursery school in Rouen

Due to recurring boiler problems, children at the school in the hamlet of Les Brouettes in regularly find themselves without heating in the classrooms. The parents are exasperated. The city has given notice to the maintenance company to resolve the problem.

For more than a year, the nursery school in the Hameau des Brouettes in Rouen has been dealing with heating problems. However, two years ago, the town hall installed a state-of-the-art heat pump in the nursery school.

For a year, the children have experienced around two weeks without heating, with the temperature sometimes not exceeding 12°C. A worrying situation for parents. “When I see that the heating is not functional, I keep him at home. I cannot put him in a class at 14°C, cold like that, it’s not possible,” judges Souhila, a parent of student.

An opinion shared by Pascale, parent representative. “It’s certain that when we put the children at 12°C all day, we feel a little guilty about leaving them in such a cold temperature,” she explains on BFM Normandie.

“I have my daughters who have been sick. It’s complicated even to learn, to concentrate, it’s not possible in fact”, annoys Miléna Perrette.

A new pump in February

Last week, they met with Rouen town hall to try to resolve the situation. With no response from the company that installed the heating, the community decided to put it on notice.

“And we did well because the company warned us at the end of the week (editor’s note: last week) that it was going to change this pump for a new model at its own expense. We are very happy that things are working out. finally resolved”, confides Elizabeth Labaye, deputy mayor of Rouen in charge of education, schools and childhood.

The replacement of the pump should be done next February. In the meantime, the town hall has set up a surveillance system. “We have one of our agents who comes every morning to check that the heating is working, and also on Sundays because that is often the time when it does not start again,” she notes.
