Also a way to discover how paleontologists enrich knowledge of past and current ecosystems through the study of these fossils.
The Muséum-Aquarium, formerly named the zoology museum when it was created in 1933, mainly had collections of current zoology. In the 1990s, a rich paleontological collection, estimated at 50,000 units, was added to its funds. This collection, established in the 19th century, was brought together in 1913 within the Institute of Applied Geology in Nancy which subsequently became the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Géologie (ENSG)). It was during the transfer of the ENSG to its new premises in Brabois that this collection arrived at the Muséum-Aquarium.
