The parade continues in Matignon. The Prime Minister, François Bayrou, who hopes to reveal the composition of his government “this week”continues its consultations with parliamentary groups, Wednesday December 18. He is due to receive representatives of the Radical Party at 11 a.m. and Eric Ciotti’s UDR party at noon, before moving on to senators from the Macronist group at 2:30 p.m. and those from the centrist RDSE group at 3:30 p.m. Follow the political day in our live stream.

When will there be a government? François Bayrou went to the Elysée twice on Tuesday to discuss the composition of the government with Emmanuel Macron. “I hope we will manage to go quickly” and finalize the government “in a few days”he said in the middle of the afternoon. His intention is to present a tight team of around 25 ministers, according to parliamentary sources, before delivering his general policy declaration to Parliament on January 14.

The “special law” arrives in the Senate. The budgetary text submitted urgently after the censorship of the Barnier government is entering its home stretch in Parliament, with a vote without suspense expected in the Senate. The National Assembly adopted it unanimously on Monday, and, barring any major surprises, from 2:30 p.m., the Senate will in turn approve it without modifying it, which will put an end to its parliamentary journey and allow its promulgation in extremis before December 31.

François Bayrou promises to go to Mayotte. “As soon as the President of the Republic leaves [Mayotte]that the government will be formed, I will obviously go to mobilize all the means of the State”assured Tuesday evening the Prime Minister, criticized for having chaired the municipal council on Monday evening after having contented himself with following a crisis meeting in Mayotte by videoconference. Emmanuel Macron is expected in the archipelago on Thursday.
