When will the month of Ramadan 1446/2025 start in France? When will Eid al-Fitr 1446/2025 take place? For the Muslim Theological Council of France (CTMF), there is no need to wait for the Night of Doubt and it is making it known now. In a press release received by the editorial staff on Tuesday, December 17, the religious body announced the date setting the start of the month of fasting, eagerly awaited by millions of Muslims around the world.
“According to the most precise scientific data”regarding the start of Ramadan, “the conjunction (new moon) will occur, inshaAllah, on Friday February 28, 2025 at 12:45 a.m. GMT (1:45 a.m. Paris time)” while “the conditions required for the observation of the new crescent of Ramadan throughout the world will be met, inshaAllah, on the same day, from 2:43 p.m. GMT (3:43 p.m. Paris time)”indicates the theological body, a supporter of astronomical calculations to determine the beginning and end of the months of the Islamic calendar, including that of Ramadan.
Accordingly, “the first day of the month of Ramadan will be, inshaAllah, Saturday March 1, 2025.”
The CTMF also announced the date of Eid al-Fitr 1446/2025, which marks the end of the month of Ramadan. As Saphirnews indicates here, “the first day of the month of Shawwal will be, inshaAllah, Sunday March 30, 2025”. The last day of fasting is therefore set for Saturday March 29, 2025.
Indeed, regarding the month following that of Ramadan, “the conjunction (new moon) will occur, inshaAllah, on Saturday March 29, 2025 at 10:58 a.m. GMT (11:58 a.m. Paris time)”. And then specify that “the conditions necessary for observing the new Shawwal crescent, in the world, will be met, inshaAllah, the next day, Sunday March 30, from 00:12 GMT (01:12 Paris time)”. The month of Ramadan should therefore last 29 days this year.
