Avoidance is not a new phenomenon, but given the transformations that the Seine-Saint-Denis region is experiencing, it is urgent to determine the reasons and act on them. This is why, in partnership, the Department and the Créteil Academy have set up a committee of experts specializing in educational and social issues (sociologists, researchers, national education stakeholders), as well as members of the educational communities, to study the phenomenon more closely. From this start of the school year, the first 10 departmental public colleges are participating in this study; they will be joined by 14 others in a second phase.
With the launch of the objective of attractiveness and social and educational diversity deployed since the start of the 2024 school year, the Department is committed to investing heavily in the maintenance and beautification of colleges, to financing the mechanisms of the Departmental Educational Project over several years. The Academy finances an enrichment of the training offer with the opening of linguistic, scientific or sports sections as well as tailor-made training adapted to the needs of the teams.
« With all the elected officials of Seine-Saint-Denis, we are working to ensure that all children of the Republic, wherever they come from, benefit from the same opportunities for academic success. We need a shock of equality for public schools in Seine-Saint-Denis. This is what we defended alongside the school community mobilized last year. It is in this spirit that we are deploying today, alongside National Education, this Observatory of the attractiveness and social and academic diversity of colleges. By bringing together this panel of experts and committed actors, we wish to take action at the heart of things by objectivizing the reasons for school avoidance in Seine-Saint-Denis. »
Stéphane TrousselPresident of the Department of Seine-Saint-Denis.
