It’s official: the Honda Prelude will be launched in Canada towards the end of 2025

After rumors of 2022 and the unveiling of a concept in Tokyo in the fall of 2023, Honda announces today that the Prelude will return to the Canadian market towards the end of 2025.

Unlike the past five generations, the first of which was launched in 1978 and the last ended in 2001, the sixth will use a hybrid engine. It will debut as a 2026 model.

“The Honda Prelude has a long and storied history, being one of the first three models in our 1970s lineup alongside the Civic and Accord. Its return will bring a smile to nostalgic fans with cherished memories of this iconic car “, declared the assistant vice-president of Honda Canada, Emile Korkor.

Design-wise, expect something that closely resembles the concept you see here in the images, embodying a new direction for Honda models, especially up front.

The manufacturer also tells us that the reinvented Prelude will mark the introduction of the S+ clutch, a new driving mode that improves gear changes. In short, a way to make Honda’s continuously variable transmission more pleasant for fans of manual transmissions.

The engine may be shared with the Civic hybrid, but specifications such as power and torque will not be announced until a later date.

While Honda is celebrating 25 years of sales of hybrid vehicles in North America (the Insight started in December 1999), its Canadian division can boast of having reached a record sales of electrified vehicles in 2024, which represent now more than 30% of its total volume.
