Saint-Louis-de-Blandford: truck intercepted with possible contraband cigarettes

At the end of Tuesday morning, Quebec road traffic controllers intercepted a cube truck and arrested the driver. The truck stopped at the food court at km 228 in Saint-Louis-de-Blandford.

“A controller was on patrol with two controllers in training when they noticed a truck that appeared heavy with crushed tires. They therefore decided to intercept the vehicle,” explained Sébastien Drolet, public relations agent for Stratégie route Québec.

By carrying out the usual checks, the inspectors noted that the driver did not have the appropriate class of license. Additionally, his Ontario driver’s license was sanctioned in Quebec due to unpaid fines. “These are two reasons allowing us to seize the vehicle,” said Officer Drolet.

In addition, the controllers realized that the driver had not completed, as required, his activity report, the log book as they say in the jargon.

They then decided to check the cargo space. “Once the door was opened, the inspectors saw what appeared to them to be contraband cigarettes. It was not commercial packaging,” explained Sébastien Drolet.

The driver was placed under arrest and was handed over to the Sûreté du Québec police officers who were called to the scene.

The investigation continues. We should know more tomorrow (Wednesday) on the quantity found and what happens next in this case.
