No more sandwiches, the student “restaurant U” is back in Toulon

From the first day on Monday, an endless queue formed inside the law faculty, where the university restaurant Escarpe reopened its doors after months of renovation. The inauguration took place just before, in the presence of Bénédicte Durand, president of the National Center for University and School Work (Cnous). She was accompanied by Emmanuel Roux, rector responsible for higher education, research and innovation, Mireille Barral, general director of the Crous de -Toulon, and Xavier Leroux, president of the University.

Coworking room excluding meals

Specifically for students, this university cafeteria-restaurant has been redesigned to accommodate 294 people at each service, compared to 182 previously. Less waiting, more fluidity in the service and renewed equipment… Months of work were necessary to bring the “RU”, as Toulon students call it, up to standard. And that’s not all: from next January, the restaurant room will be used as a coworking space from the afternoon until the evening.

It’s true: attendance at university restaurants increases by 10% each year. We eat better and better there. It’s not me who says it: student satisfaction surveys prove it”explained Bénédicte Durand. “Vegetarian meals are also increasingly present in the offer to students. The prices do not vary: 3.30 euros for non-scholarship holders and only 1 euro for scholarship holders.

It’s a beautiful synergy that has taken place across the entire territory with the commitment of the Region and the Metropolis.” welcomed Xavier Leroux. “This restaurant was a priority for us as working conditions and the success of our students”added the rector.

Good timing

Finally, Josy Chambon, president of the student life commission in the Region, who represented Renaud Muselier, president of PACA, and Jean-Pierre Giran, for the Métropole, praised the timing of this opening: “Just before Christmas, right at the right time!”
