This Sunday, December 15, our Girondins met in La Rochelle to play the last match of the first leg. With a performance full of determination, our Espoirs managed to bring down the Rochelais with a score of 22-39.

The match began with a La Rochelle try attempt, 7 minutes after kick-off. Joseph Laharrague flattened a kick Maxime Tetlow in the goal, in favor of John Bosmorin. The locals insisted and finished in goal on a second attempt, but the ball was blocked. Hugo Reus then took advantage of the goal kick to score the first points of the match thanks to a drop perfectly controlled by the opener. The Rochelais thus opened the scoring (10’ ; 3-0).
Following a huge breakthrough inElyjah Ibsaieneour Girondins obtained a penalty, immediately getting back on track (12’ ; 3-3).
A breakthroughAdrien Drault brought back our young shoots in the 22 meters from La Rochelle. A bad counter-ruck Troua Vuetimaiwai left the Charentais to 14 for 10 minutes. UBB took advantage of this advantage to score a signed corner try Giorgi Khaindrava (16′; 3-8).
The Rochelais returned to 8-8 after several minutes of shared possession, concluding a big sequence from the forwards. The center Daunivucu ended up in the in-goal at the end of the line (30’).
Finally, Gabriel Bohn allowed the Bordeaux & Whites to get back in front, following several well-orchestrated passes after contact. Felix Dugay transformed, and the two teams parted at half-time with an advantage for UBB (8-15).

The second act began with flying colors for our Girondins who, after an interception, regained possession and served Morgan Mignot. Joseph Laharrague transformed the test (47’ ; 8-22).
Our players quickly regained control of the ball and, following a good scrum, Christian Everitt dived behind the posts to score another try (54’ ; 8-29).
Annoyed, the Rochelais reacted with two consecutive tries: the first came after a maul carried (58’ ; 15-29)and the second thanks to a beautiful aerial recovery of Bosmorin who rushed to the goal, allowing the Charentais to come back to only 8 points (65’ ; 22-29).
Despite the efforts of the locals to preserve their invincibility at home, our Girondins added three points to their total thanks to a successful penalty by Joseph Laharrague. Finally, Mathis Deram sealed the victory with a final try at the 80e minute.
Our Girondins won with the leader by a score of 22 to 39.
