The 16-year-old involved in the case was released after being placed under judicial supervision with a summons by a judicial police officer next March.
A 16-year-old young man was arrested on Monday, December 9 after fireworks were fired at a high school in Mantes-La-Jolie the previous week, BFM Paris Ile-de-France learned from a police source.
Thursday, December 5, two individuals, whose faces were partly hidden, used “Roman candles” in the cafeteria, where there were around fifty students, before fleeing towards the main gate. No injuries were reported.
On site, the police noticed traces of gunfire on the ground and found a mortar tube left there. The use of the video protection system suggested the involvement of a 16-year-old young man, previously reported by witnesses.
The young man explains that he regrets his action
This December 9, at 11:00 a.m., this teenager was arrested in the deputy principal's office and then placed in police custody. During his hearing, the teenager explained that a “friend” had asked him to introduce a mortar into the school with the aim of “making it explode”.
He therefore collected the fireworks at home and gave it to the sponsor in the high school hall, the latter being in the company of another individual. He said that as he left the scene, he heard the shots.
In police custody, the young man admitted having provided the artifice with full knowledge of the facts and explained that he regretted his action, because it “could have hurt people”.
At the end of his police custody, the young person was referred to the Versailles judicial court. He was released after being placed under judicial supervision with a summons by a judicial police officer for March 6, 2025.
