Teddy Riner will not participate in Grand Slam 2025.

The Frenchman was selected for the next edition of the tournament which he has won eight times, but will ultimately not be able to fight in theArena Bercy next February 2.

A few minutes after the PSG Judo victory in the Champions Leaguethe 35-year-old judoka made his package official. He justified it by announcing that an operation on his right elbow was planned before his return to competition.

“I’m telling you: Paris, I’m not doing it. There it is, it's official, because I'm not ready, because it's not the objective of the season and because at the start of the year, heading to the operating room for the ailments that I should have settle before, but, for the Champions League, I waited,” he confided in comments reported by The Team.

Teddy Riner explained that his right elbow had been in need of surgery “for seven years”.

Now that his objectives for the year 2024 are fulfilled: gold medal in +100 kg and mixed teams at the Paris Olympics 2024gold medal in Champions Leaguethe time has finally come to take care of this little physical glitch.

If the most decorated judoka in the history of the Olympics wants to be on the table at the start of 2025, it is because he wants to continue to write his legend in the years to come.

Once his convalescence estimated “between two and three months” has passed, Teddy Riner has already clearly identified his next quests.

He is aiming for a victory at the European Mixed Team Championships, the only title he has yet to win, and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The PSG Judo graduate may be absent from the Paris Grand Slam 2025, but other major events await him in the future.
