Val-d'Oise: against abandoned waste, unity is strength

Cities of communities of communes Vexin Center, Vexin Val-de-Seine et Sausseron Impressionists have formalized their commitment to the fight against abandoned waste by signing unified agreements with Citeo.

These territories, members of waste collection and treatment unions SMIRTOM du Vexin, Tri Action et Tri Orjoin forces to implement solutions adapted to local issues in terms of waste management.

Limit waste abandonment

Citeo supports this approach with more than 84 000 euros per year under two-year agreements, renewable once for three years. This partnership aims to limit waste disposal in the public spaces and the natural environments. It is also about contributing to the financing of cleaning operations and awareness linked to diffuse waste, particularly that resulting from nomadic consumption. Finally, it is a question of strengthening the sorting devices in public spaces.

The action plan is divided into three stages. THE pollution diagnosis makes it possible to identify the types of abandoned waste, their origins and possible “hot spots” in the territory. The development of a control plan is an opportunity to define targeted actions, adapted to local specificities, and aimed at specific places and audiences.

During the phase of monitoring and evaluation actions, the communities, in conjunction with their partners, ensure the implementation and analysis of the results obtained.

An unprecedented grouping in Île-de-

This grouping is unprecedented in Île-de-France. These territories of Val-d'Oise hope that their initiative will serve as a model for other similar projects in the region.

The signing of this agreement with Citeo is the lever we were missing to create momentum across all the municipalities in our EPCI. This help provided by Citeo will allow us to realize several ideas linked to the protection of our environment and the awareness of our fellow citizens.“, underlines Frédérique Cambourieux, vice-president for Environment of the community of communes Vexin Val de Seine.

Implementation of sorting bins in strategic locations, increased communication, actions in schools and daycare centers to make children prescribers, passage of a sweeper… “The global vision of the fight against abandoned waste allows, by working together, to be more efficient and to provide resources that are impossible at the municipal level”.
