While the Prince’s economic mission was officially launched this Monday in Dakar, Senegal, many companies made the trip, partly financially supported by the various public bodies present, including hub.brussels for the capital and Awex for the part Walloon.
Among them, Macq, a Brussels company known for its electronic solutions but also very well known for its services in smart mobility management in the city, thanks to its software and algorithms based on artificial intelligence. And among these services, the famous section radars, a nightmare for speeders.
“Section radars greatly improve safety”
“It should be remembered that section speed cameras, which are smart cameras, greatly improve road safety. And this avoids causing the accordion effect, as with conventional speed cameras“, justifies in this regard François Macq, the director of the company, which specialized in mobility about twenty years ago. “We have the will to grow internationally. For the moment, we were discussing with Morocco, on the management of major road junctions, and Côte d’Ivoire. But Senegal also interests us”he explains.
quoteSo we want to continue the discussions and come back with a signed order!
“Generally, it is said that people have money for road safety, fines, but less for smart mobility management. Yet this is what we offer, above all“, he comments, while his cameras and the systems that go with them are leaders on the Belgian market. They are also the ones that control traffic, for example, in low emission zones (LEZ).
“We are more than a hundred people and about 10% of our turnover is made abroad. But this is where our growth can be strongest. We have a business partner in Senegal, with who we are discussing. We therefore want to continue the discussions and come back with a signed order!”, he ends, he who estimates that the cost of the mission for his company – between ten and fifteen thousand euros – is largely profitable. On the other hand, imposing section radars in Senegal is a serious challenge, given the sometimes chaotic traffic there. But if we start from zero, there is an opportunity business.
